Pharmacy Technician HQ Update – Drama, Pharmacy Technician Training, ASHP, and Updates

We are in the Thanksgiving season, and I would like to start this post with a thought. With all the stress of work, or finding work, school, kids, parents, health (or lack thereof); it is too easy to get caught up in life that we forget what is important. Make time this holiday season to reflect on the things you are thankful for in your life. Start with those people in your life that you may have been taking for granted, the positives of the past year, and everything else that you have appreciated. No matter where we are in our life, it is always good to slow down and re-center ourselves once in a while, it does all of us some good.

Career Step update: I have had a few emails asking if I knew when or if Career Step would do another free iPAD or Laptop special. I hadn’t up until yesterday. For the rest of November, all new enrolled students will get a free Laptop or iPAD. I think this is one of the cooler deals they make. If you were thinking about Career Step for some training, now is a good time. Here is a link to the Career Step page for more information.

Thoughts From the Trenches Series: We have an article series going with Michael Hoenig, a current pharmacy technician student attending Vatterott College in Omaha Nebraska. If you missed this article, check it out here. Michael will keep checking in with us as he progresses through his training. Michael is transitioning careers and has a great attitude about life, and is pretty witty as well.

Drama in the Workplace: I know right! We discussed this a little in previous posts and a bit in the eBook, but I will state the obvious again. Nobody, especially the hospital pharmacy director (and people think we are out of touch), likes to have people on our team who stir up drama. I have no idea where it comes from, but you know the saying: “Save the drama for your momma,” well I want to expand that to your spouse, friends, family. I don’t really care, just do not bring it in the workplace. If a coworker is stirring the pot, then stay clear of that person. We recently had to let a person go for various reasons, and stirring up drama was one of those reasons. I am not a psychologist, but I can guess why people do it, but it doesn’t matter. If you want to progress in your career, heck in life, then don’t do it.

ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting: The ASHP meeting is in Las Vegas this Year. It is the 1st week of December. Hopefully some of you are going. If you are, that is great. I will be presenting in the 340B University for a small portion on Sunday. I reviewed the pharmacy technician offerings and they ar pretty good. I will try to make it to one and report back.

Owning it: When you do not meet your expectations, you should own it. I must apologize for not meeting my PTCB practice exam goal of 50 questions. I have all kinds of excuses, but they are not important. I am committing to hit this goal by the end of the year. This also works very well at work. If you make a mistake, own it, and fix it if you can, or at minimum help to improve processes so it does not happen again. In most cases as we look to change things, we should start with ourselves.

We will do some site stats toward the end of the year, but for a novice website guy, it has been great watching our community grow. It has been fun connecting with all of you and I look forward to more growth of our community in 2013.
